Things like this make me crave RWD again, the most I can manage at the moment is wild understeer. Also I would quite like some snow. Jel, basically.

I did drive midengineer's mr2 today, so I got some legitimate drift action

Are you at a prison? Why does the parking lot have a guard tower?

My miata has only seen one winter, and I would like to keep it that way. On the other hand I really want to slap on the winter tires and DORIFTO IN THE SNOW!!

It's a high school. I have no idea why there's a guard tower...

Almost the same.

*****One bit of knowledge: don't hoon on government property. The cops can do something about it without the property owner's go ahead. When I was in high school I had friends get in trouble for practicing their driving before their dl test bc they were on school property without permission aka trespassing. However, if you do it on private property the cops can't issue tickets or arrest without permission of the property owners which for big lots in shopping centers is usually some holding company. The most they can do is tell you to leave unless you've put someone's life in danger.*****

I've never actually tried this but I think you should... aquire plastic lunch trays, something like what they have at McD's and put them under your rear wheels. Hoon.

Needs moar RWD and moar power. Those FWD drifts were terrible.

Haters gon hate. I had some better drifts when I wasn't being filmed by the iPhone.

Too bad Buick lacks proper hand brake. Coulda had some nice ones.

He had some good ones. It's got a foot brake that he rubber-banded the ratchet lock on. It mostly didn't help that the lot had been pre-hooned and really wasn't super slick.

"proper" hand brake? I had a foot operated hand brake which was superior in that I didn't have to take my hands off the wheel. The drifts are more impressive than they look because they're all being caught more or less from the side in this video.

Here's a video with a decent drift at the end:

I laughed way too hard at 1:55 with the Sonic dragging its handbrake'd wheels behind it.

Yes, proper hand brake. The one you can apply and release on the fly while using your feet for the pedals. And there is no point arguing that proper hand brake is superior for drifting or just about anything else.

Apparently I'll have to show you kids how to do some snow drifts when winter hits NJ

...aside from the way you activate them, there is absolutely no functional difference, so who gives a shit? I have no clutch, so my left foot is free to constantly manipulate the parking brake way more than anyone could with a hand-operated parking brake. I was drifting just as well as the Sonic, which has a "proper" hand brake.

No functional difference? I guess that's why all professional drifters use foot operated hand brake. Oh wait.

Kinja'd!!! Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To >

No, there is no functional difference. It is an ergonomic one. In both cases a lever is actuated and it clamps on the rear discs. The only difference is the set of muscles used by the driver which, again, is ergonomic. Professional drifters usually drive manuals and have hydraulic-assisted handbrakes so they can clamp down harder than is possible with an unassisted hand-operated handbrake as found in 99% of cars. Legs are stronger than thighs, so technically the foot-operated is superior when ergonomically feasible because it allows greater clamping pressure to be applied.

You're possibly the world's most passionate person about handbrakes. Kinda sad.

Have a gif.

There is a functional difference. It's way faster to apply and release a hand brake than it is a foot brake. Not to mention every single car I've been in the foot brake was awkwardly placed and being 6'4" it was almost always a pain in the ass to apply. On top of that majority of cars have a hand lever release at a knee level or lower which makes it even worse.
